A native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the artist grew up affected by the simple, serene beauty of the Moravian settlements, and the thriving arts of this culturally vibrant area. Thorough art instruction in secondary school, and the discipline of working for a degree in Studio Art and Psychology from Salem College, helped develop Muse's artistic direction.

While bringing up two sons and restoring their 1869 house with her husband, Muse continued, at least part-time, creating art and teaching it. During this time, she began exploring watercolors;and, for the past 15 years, she has painted almost solely with them.

Muse has also worked extensively in oils; graphite, charcoal and ink; and mixed-media collage. Perhaps most important in developing her particular style has been study on her own and experimentation. More recent study with artists such as Barclay Sheaks, Marilyn Hughey Phyllis, Judi Betts, and Charles Sharpe has challenged the artist with fresh approaches and techniques.

Her work has shown in numerous solo, two-person, and group exhibits. Recent juried art shows for which Muse's work was selected include the Fayetteville Museum of Art's Competition for North Carolina Artists; the Watercolor Society of North Carolina; and Assoc. Artists of Winston-Salem's "Southeastern Spectrum", "Dimensions", and "Painting in General". Muse's artwork is included in numerous corporate and private collections. For over 20 years, she has taught school, Arts Council, and private classes.

In viewing the artwork, you will note that Muse is often drawn to historical sites, architectural jewels, and nature's beauty. Her hometown of over twenty five years now, Tarboro, North Carolina, is a treasure trove of grand old Victorian homes, and has a 45-block Historic District. Many of the buildings depicted are in the Tarboro area.
