I can still recall
The day you were born
You came to us in
The wee hours of the morn
So small and so fair
Your skin was so light
I held you in
My arms so tight
I lay there watching you for hours
Amazed by what I'd just created
A tiny life so soft and fragile
This day in time has been marked and dated
You've grown up fast as children do
Learning all the time
You never fail to bring me joy
I still can't believe your mine
Now you're at school
You are learning so much
You throw yourself into your work
So eager to know all that life has to share
You do it with such a big smirk
I wonder at times what your life will be like
And what wonderful things it will bring
We will try to support you in whatever you do
And we'll guide you with some of those things
But for now I will cherish the years up till now
As they still are so strong in my mind
And look forward to those that are yet to arrive
And the memories we have yet to find
A single rose was all it took
For me to win your heart
From that day a friendship formed
I hoped it wouldn't part
I got the chance to work with you
I knew not what was coming
Just what you got away with showed
That you were very cunning
You wrote me secret little notes
And wrote me poems too
You snuck around the shop at times
To steal a kiss or two
You had a way to make me smile
And brighten up my days
You showed me how you cared for me
In so many different ways
I fell in love as time went on
A path I chose to take
I'm glad to say right to this day
It wasn't a mistake
You gave to me the perfect gift
A child so full of love
A precious gift we both do share
An angel from above
You have become my closest friend
You're always there for me
Through good and bad times that I've had
You've kept me company
Willingly you often share
The love you have inside
The piece you chose to give to me
I carry it with pride
I thank you now for what you've done
You made it all worthwhile
For giving me the chance I have
To gaze upon your smile
