How common is it?

Meniere’s is estimated to be present in anywhere from 0.5 to 7.5 people out of 1,000.  The exact number of people with Meniere's disease is difficult to measure accurately because no official reporting system exists. Numbers used by researchers differ from one report to the next and from one country to the next. The National Institutes of Health estimates that about 545,000 people in the U.S. have Meniere's disease and that 38,250 are diagnosed each year.A familial disposition seems to exist; approximately half of the patients have significant family histories.  The mean age among treatment groups is 49-67 years.  Although Meniere’s has been seen in almost all ages, onset typically begins at early to middle adulthood.  Only 2% of those who have Meniere’s are diagnosed when they are children.
