With the withdrawal from service of FV101 CVR(T) Scorpion and also the Fox armoured car, Sabre was created by marrying modified Fox turrets with Scorpion hulls. The resulting vehicle has the curve-sided turret of Fox with the same 30 mm Rarden Canon as Scimitar. It can be distinguished from Scimitar by the turret shape and by the coaxial chain gun.
