522. John LEAVENS *Jr. (201) (202) was born on 27 Apr 1640 in Roxbury, Suffolk Co., MA. He died on 16 Oct 1696. John inherited the estate in Roxbury by Court Decree in 1662. In 1670 he sold a piece of it to Samuel Williams. Upon the death of his first wife he left Roxbury and took residence in Stratford, Connecticut, in January 1674. Within the year, at age 34, he married Elizabeth Preston who was 19. About 1680 John moved his wife and three children back to Roxbury. He was received into the Church of Roxbury on "1684 month 4 day 22".

John had learned the trade of carpenter and along with other families, left Roxbury and became one of the first settlers of New Roxbury in 1686. Thirty-six lots of 20 acres were distributed to the settlers of New Roxbury and John took his in two pieces, one of 16 acres and one of 4. In 1687 he sold all his interest in Roxbury to Joseph Warren of Boston. In 1690 he was selectman and at the head of a committee to build a meeting house in October 1691. His will and estate was valued at almost 90 pounds on 15 October 1696.

Note: New Roxbury became Woodstock which was part of Massachusetts until 1749 when it became part of Windham County, Connecticut. He was married to Elizabeth PRESTON * on 23 Nov 1674 in New Haven, New Haven Co., CT. This was the second marriage for John Leavens, Jr.

523. Elizabeth PRESTON *(203) was born on 29 Sep 1655 in New Haven, New Haven Co., CT. She died in Killingly, Windham Co., CT. Children were:

child ii. Peter LEAVENS(205) was born on 9 Nov 1677 in Stratford, Fairfield Co., CT. He died on 7 Feb 1708/9 in Killingly, Windham Co., CT. Roxbury Vital Records lists his birth date as 15 Nov 1677. Peter Leavens married Patience Brooks, 27 Dec 1704 in Canterbury, CT, they had two children Esther, b. 4 Dec 1705, and Peter, b.17 Nov 1707 (he went to Dutchess County, NY, and became the head of a large family).
child iii. James LEAVENS(206) (148) was born on 24 Oct 1679 in Stratford, Fairfield Co., CT. He died on 9 May 1746 in Killingly, Windham Co., CT. Roxbury Vital Records lists his birth date as 14 Oct 1679. James Leavens married Mary Chamberlain, bap.22 Oct 1678 in Roxbury, CT, they had 4 children, Hannah, b.18 Nov 1700 in Woodstock, m.16 Jan 1725 to Eleazer Brooks; Jerusha, bap.abt.1714; John, b.? d. 21 Nov 1764 in Killingly, perhaps m. Mary Winter in Killingly; Elizabeth. James and Mary, living in Woodstock, were admitted to the Church of Killingly on 19 Oct 1715.

child v. Joseph LEAVENS(208) was born on 15 Nov 1683 in Roxbury, Suffolk Co., MA. He died on 5 Nov 1773 in Killingly, Windham Co., CT. Joseph Leavens 1)m.22 Dec 1707, Judith Sabin in Woodstock, b.26 Aug 1690 in Rehoboth, MA, prob. daughter of John and Sarah (Peck) Sabin, they had many children; 2)m.17 Dec 1755, Hannah (Bryant) Larned in Thompson, CT, b.?, d.12 Apr 1781, daughter of Simon Bryant.
