Fitting it all
OK. I'm *not* going to give a run down on how to solder this lot into your
Websurfer.
However, I will say that if you don't know how to read the PCB part
location details, or which way round a PQFP or DIP device goes, then this
is not the job for you. Get a buddy who *IS* knowledgeable on such matters
to do it. This is a *very* tricky task. If you get solder bridged between
the PQFP pins on the Ethernet device, you'd better be very patient and
know what you're doing to remove them!!
Anyway, some tips that might prove useful:
-
Buy a reel of solder wick and clean off *all* the solder from the pads
before you start. It wets the joint and removes the ridges left by the
original solder screen/IR reflow process.
-
Remove the solder from the through hole locations before you start.
-
Use a cotton swab to apply liquid flux to the pads before you make a solder
joint.
-
The 0603 size parts are really tiny. Use a fine pair of tweezers to hold
them in place while you solder.
-
Use a very fine tipped iron (approx 15 -> 20 W) and very fine gauge solder
- no plumbimg sized solder here please!!
Lastly....
Check, CHECK and *R*E*C*H*E*C*K*
your work before you apply any power!!!!
Did you get that? Check your work thoroughly!!
