Gabriel Slaughter Esq. Lieutenant Governor and acting Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky to all to whom these presents shall come Greeting Know ye That by virtue and in consideration of Kentucky Land Office Warrant No. 1278 there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto Isaac Davis a certain tract or parcel of land containing one hundred acres by survey bearing date the thirty first day of March one thousand eight hundred and seventeen lying and being in the County of Madison on the waters of Silver Creek and Clear Creek and Bounded as followeth To Wit Beginning at a white oak corner to Thomas Shelton thence with his line thence North seventy four East forty eight poles crossing a branch of Clear Creek to a white oak thence South sixty East thirty two poles to a poplar and chesnut and dogwood thence North eighty poles to a small oak on a cliff thence North fifty eight East one hundred poles to a white walnut near a cliff thence North fifteen West fifty four poles to a poplar on a hillside thence South fifty eight West two hundred and twenty three poles to the Beginning With its appurtenances to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land to the said Isaac Davis and his heirs forever In witness whereof the said Gaberiel Slaughter, Esq. Lieutentant Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky hath hereunto set his hand and caused the seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed at Frankfort on the twenty first day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventeen and of the Commonwealth the Twenty sixth

On the top of page 394 there appears the name of Thomas McSwain and the date 31 May 1819. It is unclear why his name appears on Isaac Davis' land warrant. Isaac Davis married Thomas McSwain's daughter Margaret.
