James F. Torpey
                                            
  James F. Torpey was born April 27, 1921 to William and Gertrude Farrell 
  Torpey. He graduated from Delmar High School  in 1938. He was inducted 
  into the Army Air  Corps on August  26, 1942. On September  9, 1942 he  
  left De Witt for the service and was killed on a flight in the Asiatic 
  area December  20, 1943.  He was  buried in  an American  cemetery at  
  Kumming, China next  to a  Brigadier General. He  now is  buried in an  
  American National cemetery at Honolulu, Hawaii.
  
  He was survived by his parents, two brothers Roger and William, both of 
  Delmar and  three sisters,  Sister  Mary Ruth  of  Kalispell, Montana;  
  Catherine of Clinton and Mildred at home  also one niece, Carol Torpey 
  and one nephew Phillip Torpey, both of Delmar.

  PFC James F. Torpey was officially reported dead in the Asiatic area on 
  Friday January 14, 1944.  He was inducted into  the service August 26,  
  1942. He went first  to St. Petersburg, Fla.,  then to Gulfport, Miss.  
  later to Bolling Field and Gravelly Point, Washington, D. C., Salt Lake 
  City, Utah and Newcastle, Del. On July 21 of last year , he arrived in 
  India, he arrived in  India. he was  a flight mechanic  on a transport  
  plane in India and China, and reported missing. September 20.
  
  James F. Torpey was  born in Delmar  April 27, 1921.  He was graduated  
  from Delmar high school in  1938, and prior to  his induction had been  
  engaged in farming with his brother William, near Delmar.  
  
  Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs.  Will J. Torpey; two brothers, 
  Roger and  William  of  Delmar; three  sisters,  Sister  Mary  Ruth of  
  Kalispell, Montana, Catherine of Clinton, and Mildred at home; also one 
  niece Carol Torpey and one nephew Phillip Torpey, both of Delmar.
  
  He was  killed in  China, Dec.  20,  1943 and  was buried  in National  
  Memorial Cemetery, Grave Section C, No. 285, Honolulu, Hawaii.

			  William Torpey, Jr.
                                            
  Word has been received by relatives in Clinton of the death of William  
  Torpey Jr., 47, today in the University Hospital in Iowa City. Services 
  are pending in Vinton.
  
  Mr. Torpey was born in 1919 in Parnell,  the son of W. J. and Gertrude 
  Farrell Torpey. He married Madonna Ryan in 1942 in De Witt.
  
  Surviving are his wife;  four sons, Phillip, Dale,  Tommy and Danny at  
  home; one daughter, Nancy, at home; his father W. J. Torpey of Clinton; 
  one brother,  Roger  of  Charlotte  and  three  sisters,  Mrs. Everett  
  (Mildred) Leonard of Clinton,  Catherine Torpey of  Clinton and Sister  
  Mary Ruth (Ethelreda) of Cedar Rapids.

                              Roger J. Torpey
                                            
  Roger J. Torpey, 70,  of 207 4th  St., De Witt a  retired farmer, died  
  Wednesday at De Witt  Hospital. The funeral will  be Saturday at 10:30  
  a.m. in St.  Joseph's Catholic  Church. the  Rev. Anthony  Conrad will  
  officiate and  burial  will  be  at  St.  Patrick's  Cemetery, Delmar.  
  Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday at the Hanrahan Funeral Home with 
  the rosary at 8 p.m.
  
  He was born October  25, 1905 in  Lost Nation, the son  of William and  
  Gertrude Farrell Torpey. he  married Eva powers  September 27, 1934 at  
  Delmar. Mr.  Torpey farmed  in Washington  twp.  many years,  had been  
  township assessor and was a  Clinton County Agricultural Stabilization  
  and Conversation Service Committeeman. 
  
  Survivors include his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Alfred (Carol) Bauman 
  and Mrs. Don (Carmel) McCloskey,  both of Davenport, 10 grandchildren;  
  three sisters, Sister Mary Ruth of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Everett (Mildred) 
  Leonard and Miss Catherine Torpey, both of Clinton.
