Mrs. Edward Lucey
The Carroll Times gives the following account of the death of a former
resident of this city, and a lady that was well known to many people.
Mrs. Edward J. Lucey died at 8:00 o'clock, Monday evening January 19th
at her home in this city, the cause of death being pernicious anemia, from
which the deceased had suffered for the past two years. The funeral took
place this morning at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic church of which she was
a member and burial was made in the cemetery of that parish. Mrs. Elizabeth
Grace Lucey was born May 19, 1856 at Mayo, Tipperary county, Ireland,
her parents being John and Julia Grace. They moved to America when the
subject of this sketch was only one year old and settled in La Salle county,
Illinios. In 1865 they moved to Boone, Iowa, where she met and was married
June 5, 1875 to Edward J. Lucey, who survives her. To this union, six
children were born, four of whom are living, their names being; Mrs. William
Drey, John, Edward and Jerry Lucey. All of these are residents of Carroll.
Two sisters, Mrs. Lee Carver and Mrs. C. F. Hamilton, preceded her in death
as did one brother , James Grace. Mr. and Mrs. Lucey came to Carroll
March 15, 1879 and have made this city their home ever since that time.
She was a valued member of the Ladies Sodality and Daughters of Isabella
and her death will be mourned by a wide circle of friends as well as by
those of her own home circle.

Edward J. Lucey
Edward J. Lucey came to Carroll in 1878, partner with Geo. Micka in General
Merchandise. Later blacksmith with Charles Hamilton. Hamilton later sold his
interest to become County Atty, and Lucey partnered with Henry Wegner, one
of the founders of St. Josephs church.

LUCEY WEDS
And now, E. J. Lucey has taken Mary E. Grace for better or worse and for
weal and for woe. The marriage took place in Boonesbora Catholic church,
Wednesday morning.
