OBITUARY OF MRS. PATRICK SHANNON

Pioneer of Clinton County Passes Away at Home of Her Son Last Night
			Lived at Center Grove

Funeral will be held at 9:30 Friday morning at Center Grove church,
DeWitt, June 3.  Mrs. Patrick Shannon, a pioneer of Clinton County and
related to many of the most prominent families of this neighborhood,
died last night at 11 o'clock at the home of her son, M. N. Shannon in
Cedar Grove, with whom she had lived the last 7 years, or since the
death of her husband.  Funeral services will take place at 9:30 Fri.
morning at Center Grove.

Julia Lucey was born in New York in 1837 and soon after removed with
her parents to Iowa, where she lived for many years on a farm near
Welton.  In 1856 she married Patrick Shannon and to them were born ten
children of whom one, Rose, Mrs. C. W.  Kenney, preceded her to the
better land but a few days ago, dying May 18.  The ones living are
Mrs. James (Mary) McDermott of Charlotte; John of Elma; Michael of
Center Grove; Thomas L. of Grand Mound; Mrs. P. S. Farrell of
Davenport; Jeremiah V. of St.  Joseph, Mo.; William J. of Chicago;
Mrs. L. E. (Julia) Skelley of Kansas City, Mo. and Mrs. H. M.
(Frances) Smith, DeWitt.  She is also survived by three sisters and
four brothers.
