T.R. Dawson was probably the most important composer of fairy chess problems in the 1st half of the 20th century.This problem appears in his book Caissa's Wild Roses, which has been published together with four other books as Five Classics of Fairy Chess.The problem was first published in Bolton Football Field in 1911.

According to the OLD F.I.D.E. Laws of chess which is probably not so according to the current ones, former artcle 10.12 states that: the 50
move rule can be increased for certain  positions provided the increase in number & these positions have been clearly announced before the start of a tournament by the organisers before the event starts.The claims then proceeds to 10.13.the most extreme case yet known of
a position which might take more than 50 moves to win is
King,Rook,Knightvs.King,Knight Knight which can run for 223 moves between captures.directly below is an example that come close to that Mate in 238 moves
This one obeys the 50 move rule but it takes 123 moves to aquire a forced mated.
Mate in 115 (in compliance with the 50 move rule) K+P
vs. K+N+N Black to move & mate in 115
Mate in 66 heres one that exceeds 50 moves rule K=P vs K+N+N
