Susila the "Soldier"
Susila is the eldest of our 2 children. Being born at the British Military Hospital in Kluang, she and her mother Datin Rokuni (pic right) did not have to comply with all the "pantangs". We are both coffee adicts and must have our coffee as soon as we get up (pic left)
Susila the "Diplomat"   After graduating with a BSc (Hons) from University of Malaya she worked for a short while at WHO's Drug Centre in Penang. Then she joined the Diplomatic and Administrative Service. Picture right shows her whilst she was doing a bit of military training as part of the INTAN course
Susila's "normadic" life began as early as when she was a year old. We had to move to Ipoh. Then it was to Alor Star and Bentong before we ended up in Queenscliff Australia. Started her Education" at a kindergarden in Queenscliff. Picture left was taken at our Hesse St, House in 1962.
1963 saw us back in Kuala Lumpur and Susila went to the Good  Sheppered kindergarden in Jalan Ampang. Rokuni send and brought her back in our huge American cae Ford Fairlane. Can't imagine her doing it now with the present day traffic.1965 saw us move again and this time it was to Taiping. Hardly have we settled in No 1, Riifle Range Road quarters, Taiping we had to pack up and leave for UK.
Though air travel in those days were not as slow as the camel ride we took to the pyrimids in Egypt (Picture right shows Susila on the centre camel with Rokuni on her left and Geeta and me on her right),, the fastest was 2 days.with an overnight stop either in Sri Lanka or Pakistan.
Amongst the schools Susila studied in were Sentul Convent and St Johns Institution. When it came to learning how to "drive", it had to be on our 4.2 litre Jaguar E. (pic below taken at No.2, Lorong Silat,MINDEF)
On completion of her secondary education, she went to University of Malaya. Left is Susila with her friend Shashi on convocation day
