Hi! I'm gonna give you tips on how to make a great deck. Let's go step-by-step on how to make a winning deck!
STEP ONE: THEME
Think of a theme for your deck. Base it around one pokemon (i.e. raindance) or throw in a bunch of pokemon who do the same type of attacks(i.e. Energy Removal decks). Throw in appropriate trainers for the theme of your deck..
STEP TWO: POKEMON
Have 12-16 Pokemon, and 11-12 of them should be basic. Try not to have too mny evolutions. If you have evolutions, make sure you have more of your pre-evolved basics than your highest evolved forms. That means youy should run 4-3-2, 3-2, and 4-3 families for evolutions. Don't have too many Pokemon. Leave room for energy and trainers.
STEP THREE: TRAINERS
Trainers are an important aspect in Pokemon. Have many trainers,, about 18-22. Have card drawing, energy removal, searching and pokemon switching in all of your decks. so, have at least 2 bill, oak, switch, energy removal, super energy removal, switch and gust of wind in all of your decks. Now, fit in trainers that work well with your pokemon. Are your pokes energy intensive? Put in retrievals and energy searches. Do your Pokemon hurt themselves? Include defenders. Are your Pokemon's attacks weak? Use Pluspowers.
STEP FOUR: ENERGY
Have about 23-26 energies in your deck. If your deck has two colors, have about 11 of each type of energy, and if a lot of your pokemon are colorless, use Double Colorless Energy.
STEP FIVE: WEAKNESS AND RESISTANCE
Be sure that all of your Pokemon don't have weakness to the same type. If they do, they will be creamed by a one color deck of the type they're weak to. Also, make sure you can get by resistance if your pokemon are fighting, electric or psychic. For example, if you're using electric, You'll have trouble with fighting pokemon. Include Scythers because he is both resistant and strong against fighting pokemon.
STEP SIX: PLAYTEST
Playtest your deck against your friends and make any nessesary changes.
Here is one of my decks!
