This is a picture which was taken of Aileen and I with my
"Marvelous Mom,"Evelyn Mary Emma Poole Grauel. She turned Ninety Two this
past October and is still able to live on her own in the beautiful home
built by the hands of my father, George H. Grauel, back in the early sixties.
We live right next to Mom and it is a true joy to be able to share these
precious moments with her and to check in on her at various times during
the day just to be sure everything is OK. The big smile of my lovely wife
Aileen is very sincere because she has so much enjoyed helping make it
possible for Mom to enjoy the privacy and dignity of living independently
and on you own. A special thanks to my friend Scott Meenen who used his
electronic camera to make this picture possible (look, Ma, no film!)

Dr.Joseph Bruner, Director of Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment
at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, was performing
surgery on a 21-week-old baby, Samuel Armas, to alleviate the effects of
spina bifida, while the child was still in his mother’s womb.
When Dr. Bruner had made the incision
for this extraordinary operation, baby Samuel reached his tiny hand out
of the uterus and clutched Dr. Bruner’s middle finger as if to thank the
surgeon for his healing care.
