AN: This was written a very long time ago for inlovewithnight who asked for weapons talk between Ronan and Jayne to get her through an exam. This is my first cross over ever, and I am a little nervous.
Spoilers: None, really, for either show.
Summary: Sheppard and Ronan walk into a bar…
------
It Pays The Bills
Ronan was not entirely sure why Sheppard had insisted that this was a necessary step in the reconnaissance of this planet. The planet itself was unremarkable: dry, dusty, and an odd jingling sound seemed to follow him everywhere. There did not seem to be any direct evidence of Wraith, though the locals spoke with terror in regards to man-like monsters they called "Reavers". The building Ronan was now in was full of tables and chairs, with an odd wooden thing in the corner that seemed to be making noise. All noise, except the jingling naturally, had ceased the moment Ronan and Sheppard stepped through the swinging doors, and they had found themselves the object of many stares.
Sheppard walked up to the high table at the back of the room and pulled out a stool to sit on. Hesitating only momentarily, Ronan followed his lead. He could feel a Lesson coming on, and hoped that this one would be shorter and require less of a lecture than the whole experience about cribbage had.
A man with a towel over his shoulder faced Sheppard across the bar and asked what they wanted to drink. Sheppard began making small talk, and Ronan looked around again.
To his left sat a tall man with a short beard a plethora of weapons concealed or not at all concealed in various places on his person. Ronan regarded him with a professional eye. Without any warning at all, the man turned and revealed a knife which he held in a most threatening manner.
“Problem, Stranger?” he grated out.
“Not really,” Ronan replied in his typical fashion.
“Then what you starin’ at?”
“I have some interest in weaponry. And it appears we have that interest in common.”
The man looked hard at him, but put the knife away.
“I like guns, if that’s what you mean,” the man admitted. “And knives. And things that explode.”
“Do you hunt?”
“Well now,” the grin Ronan got in reply to his question was violently wolfish, “It so happens that we’re a-huntin’ – ”
“Jayne!” Came a voice from across the room and the man looked around with a sour expression on his face.
“What!”
“Time to move.”
“But – ”
“Now, Jayne.”
Jayne scowled and turned back to the bar. He reached for his glass and quickly tossed down the remnants of his drink.
“I hate to be cuttin’ this short, but we’ve work to do.”
Ronan looked over his shoulder at Sheppard, who was stoically trying to put a good face on whatever it was he was drinking.
“That’s all right, friend. Warriors like you and I must pay the bills somehow.”
Jayne laughed and walked out of the bar.
