Warning: Bizarre Metaphor Stretching Ahead!

AN: This story was going perfectly in my head before I remembered that there was actually a character in the show named Abel. Now it is somewhat less than perfect, but I think it still works.

Spoilers: Up to Season one, Episode nine. Because I had to go to sleep last night and that's as far as I got.

Summary: A little story before shred time.

Kane And Able

Once upon a time there lived a fair young woman in a smallish town in Southern California. She had everything she could have wanted. She was beautiful, popular, and she had a very hot boy friend.

But somewhere between the "and they all" and the "lived happily ever after" something went bizarrely wrong.

It came down to a choice. Well, it actually wasn't much of a choice. She had to choose between Kane and Able. To be alone in a world where everyone on your street had known you since you were in diapers and absolutely adored gossip, or to be loved and learn to love in return. So she married the frog and discovered that he really was a prince and much better than the toad she didn't catch.

And they all...

managed to live in the same town without killing one another.

For a while.

But men never forget when a woman chooses between them. The winner, however gracious, cannot help but gloat and the loser, however rich, cannot help but smart. Two brothers, one of whom has been scorned, cannot stay together. One will always kill. And the other will always let him.

So it comes to this: is it better to be right and dead or wrong and alive? And what if it isn't really dead dead but massive upheaval dead? And what if by "alive" you only mean "breathing" and not "happy"? And what if you held the answer in your hand but were afraid to look?

The story will play out. You know this, and it can't possibly cause any more harm to let it follow its course. If you reveal it now, you will be Kane. If you wait, you will be Able. Kane knows all the answers, but Able finds them out and makes things happen.

You are your father's daughter. And the paper shredder is only a room away.
