AN: This story came blindingly out of nowhere one afternoon in early May. Of course, once I thought about it, it became simply too good to pass up. And here we are.

For Courtney, because these things are better shared.

Spoilers: 1969 and, uh, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark :hides:

Disclaimer: As much as it might alarm some of you, I own neither Stargate nor the Indiana Jones franchise, though it is not for lack of trying.

Summary: In which Daniel gets the wrong directions and learns something about an old friend.

“I’m telling you, Daniel, it’s not here.” Sam said for the fourth or fifth time, barely able to disguise the panic in her voice. “We’re running out of time.”

“We followed the directions Catherine gave us, it must be here somewhere.”

“Is it possible that Catherine Langford was misinformed as to the location of the Stargate?” Teal’c queried. “The government of this period seems to be slightly paranoid.”

Sam and Daniel exchanged a glance, and Daniel put his hands against his temples.

“Come on, kids, we’ve got to go!” Jack said from his look out position by the doorway. “We’re about to have company, is it here or not?”

“It’s not here sir,” Sam reported. “And we’ve only got about half an hour to find it.”

“There was another warehouse next to this one,” Teal’c began but Jack cut him off as several voices approached.

“---don’t care who you are, this is a classified facility and you can’t come in!”

“I don’t think you understand, I am the person that found it in the first place. I saw it in action during The War. It took out a whole battalion of Nazis. I want to know for certain that the government is not using it in Vietnam!”

“Look, sir…”

“It’s Doctor.”

“Doctor, I can’t let you in here. This is a weapons facility, and we are at war. The chance for intelligence leaks is just too risky. You’ll have to take it up with my CO.”

The voices moved away, and Jack motioned for his team to climb out the window they had used as their point of entry. Daniel didn’t move.

“Daniel?” Jack asked. “Can we go home now?”

“What? I - - ” Daniel stuttered. “Home. Yes, I’m going.”

“Why the space moment?”

“That man, the one who wanted to come in here, he was a professor at Chicago.” Daniel explained. “He was long retired by the time I got there…he must be almost 70 now, but he was legendary.”

“Really?”

”Yeah, he helped the American forces during World War Two. And not just code-breaking like all the other archaeologists. He was in the field helping them find weapons to use against the Germans.”

“Sounds familiar.” Jack said. “Well, except for the parts about World War Two and the Germans.”

Daniel smiled.

“Well, he did give fantastic guest lectures.”

“O’Neill!” Teal’c’s voice drifted up from the parking lot below. “Captain Carter believes we will locate the Stargate in the adjacent building.”

“C’mon, Jack. Let’s go home.”

AN: Random much? Why yes, yes I do.

Daniel Jackson and Indiana Jones were both at the University of Chicago, though it is likely that Jones was long retired, if not dead, by the time Daniel got there to do his undergrad. Still, a girl can dream…
