AN: I wrote this story a while ago for shirebound's birthday and decided I should probably add it to my stories here. It's just little, but I think I like it. Scamp is her creation, but I haven't come close to her usual level of fluff :)

Surprise Party
If there was one thing Merry could depend on, it was that Pippin was incapable of keeping secrets. Accordingly, the youngest of the cousins was told nothing of Frodo’s plan, and only that there would be cake as a reward if he would spend all day outside gathering those few snowdrops and enthusiastic crocuses that had braved the uncharacteristically mild early spring weather. Pippin had not been sighted in some hours.
Scamp, entrusted to the care of Samwise for the afternoon, was also causing her own fair share of problems, although she was far easier to distract and did not prevent Sam from cleaning and decorating the sitting room. Frodo and Aragorn had spent most of the day in the kitchen, and the smells that were emerging from the room were very encouraging.
Merry checked his pcoketwatch and realized that he should probably go and track Pippin down or there would not be time to incorporate his flowers with Sam’s work in the sitting room. He met his cousin on the path, fairly drowning in what Merry was certain was every snowdrop in the Shire and covered in grass stains.
There wasn’t time to throw Pippin in the tub, but Merry did make certain that his face was at least clean before setting him down in the sitting room and explaining what was about to transpire. Scamp, barricaded in the window seat, began to bark, signaling that Bilbo was approaching with their guest for the evening.
Frodo hurriedly dimmed the lamp, while Aragorn winked conspiratorially at Pippin and picked the youngest hobbit up to hide behind the settee.
Sam heard the round green door creak open….
