PROPOSED RACE CALENDAR FOR 2005
There will be some
changes to the Race Calendar for 2005. Rather than split the races into a
Winter and Summer Series, there will be 8 races held in the most popular months
of the year for these types of events : February, March, April, May, June,
September, October and November. There will be no races in July, August, December
and January. The formats, venues and event types are due for some changes and hopefully
this will lead to some improvements in attendance and competitor and support
crew enjoyment.
Check the Proposed Race Calendar
2005 for a sneak preview.
THE 5th BUNDANOON CLASSIC 2004
This great race has been run, ridden and run for the 5th
time. Extremely cold and windy conditions hampered the competitors throughout
the race and certainly kept numbers down. Despite this, 12 brave and hardy souls
started and finished the redesigned format. Thanks to all those who came down
and had a go and I’m sure you would agree that the warm and cosy front bar of
the pub was a fitting reward for your efforts. Hope to see you all again soon
at some of our warmer events.

THE KINCUMBA KLASSIC 2004
On the hottest July day in some 20 years, a quality
collection of keen adventure racers lined up for the 4th running of
The Kincumba Klassic. With very dry conditions, unlike the mud and slush of 2003,
fast times were expected and were certainly achieved. I would personally like
to thank all the competitors and their supporters for approaching the whole
event in the right spirit and making it such a memorable day. It’s a beautiful
spot and a challenging race, maybe it just needs a few more people to know
about it (feel free to spread the word).

2003/04
In perfect conditions, the largest field we
have ever assembled (39 in all – 24 individuals and 15 in 6 teams), prepared on
the banks of the beautiful Nepean River (apart from the weeds) on Sunday 1st
February for the third race of the Gravity Fitness Summer Series 2003/04. The
quality of the field was exceptional and the efforts and attitudes of all
involved were really encouraging. Well done to Jason Wilson to win and finish
just 3mins outside the course record on a tough day (those bloody weeds …).
To finish an event as gruelling as this
one in quite hot conditions is a real achievement and I admire anyone who has a
go. To hear that some of the competitors are completing this course on little,
or even no training, is even more impressive, although a little unwise if you
ask me. It was pleasing to get so much positive feedback and I hope that
everyone involved “enjoyed” themselves and hopefully you will all want to
return for another go.

THE LAKE GLENBAWN CHALLENGE 2003
Could we have gotten
better conditions ? Unlike in 2002, Lake Glenbawn bunged on its best face as
competitors rose on the Saturday to a glistening glassy lake, a view that
gladdens any kayaker’s heart as well as the cyclists who always prefer a wind
free ride. The runners, well, they suffer no matter what the conditions are so
we get that one out of the way early.
This year 3 individuals and 4 teams (18 competitors in all)
faced the starter and a good atmosphere had developed early before the race as
people milled around for the pre-race briefing. It’s great to have people along
to these races with the right attitude and the right mix of competitiveness and
collegiality. There were competitors from Sydney, Newcastle, Singleton,
Tamworth and Inverell, so we had a nice mix of metropolitan, rural and regional
Australia (the political pollsters would have loved us as a focus group). As
well as the competitors there were 6 race officials and another 6 support crew
for both the individuals and teams so there was quite a decent crowd all up.
