Alonzo Gray Family

Alonzo Bascom was the youngest child of William and Rosaline Gray.  Following the death of his parents he was sent to live with relatives doing farm labor.  About 1901 Alonzo took a job working on the railroad and headed North to Missouri.  He visited or worked in a railroad town created at this time, Henley, just south of Jefferson City.   It is here that he met his wife, Bertha.

He married Bertha Lucinda Jones (b: 28 Oct 1886) of Henley, Missouri.  Bertha was the 12th of 14 children to Washington Repps Jones and Eliza Jane Musick.   Alonzo and Bertha were married Dec 1905 in St. Louis, Missouri. 

Alonzo held many jobs during his life.  He was a chauffer in the 1920's.  He was a travelling salesman in later life.  Both Alonzo and Bertha constantly travelled the country.  They joined the Tower Grove Baptist Church in St. Louis in the 1930's.

Alonzo died of a heart attack  3 Mar 1955 while travelling through Chilicothe, Ohio.  Bertha died 1Apr1967 of complications following a fall.  They are buried together in Valhalla Cemetery in St. Louis.
