Aquelah (sometimes Agrilah or Aquilah) was born in Taylor Township, Arkansas. He was married twice.

Little is known of his first wife.  Hempstead County marriage records indicate that A.B. Gray married Minnie Ray 25 Sep 1892.  Both of their children died in infancy.  A Mrs. Minnie Gray is shown in marriage records for Pope county marrying H.H. Butler on 24 Dec 1899.  This is about the time that Aquilah reports leaving Hope for DeQueen.  We can only summize that the stress of the two childrens death lead to divorce.

He married Mamie Chaplin (b: 11 Jun 1881) of Rich Hill, Missouri.  Mamie was the child of W.M. Chaplin and Marie Ann McLin.   They were married in the Lock Hotel in Lockesburg, Arkansas 9 Apr 1901 by Judge Bell (possible relative of Modesta Rosaline Bell)

Aquillah was active in his church and community.  It is through his writings that most of the family history was preserved.

Aquilah died 6 Dec 1946.  Mamie died in her sleep 26 Oct 1955.  They are buried together in Redmond Cemetery in DeQueen, Arkansas.
