For The People Variant Cards

Here are my ideas for extra cards in For The People. The easiest way to make up these cards is to colour photocopy the backs of 9 cards onto light card. The new results can then be written on the back or if you fancy the chance the sheet can go through a printer with this lot set up as the front face. Have a dry run to check that the boxes match up with the card fronts first.

Side

Strategy

Title

Result

U

1

CSA ironclad sunk by the Union

Union player removes any 1 CSA ironclad counter

U

2

Confederacy States Rights

1 CSA state is chosen by the Union player. For the remainder of this turn

  1. No CSA army may pick up units within that state.
  2. No SP that is not part of an army may leave that state.

U

3

Confederate War Profiteer

Cancels the effect of CSA Purchasing Agents or Confederate Overseas Agent

B

1

Parole of Prisoners

Both players immediately place 1 friendly SP in any 1 space that is friendly controlled.

B

2

General shot by enraged husband

Player may remove Van Dorn or Hooker permanently from play.

B

3

Badly sited fortification is flooded

Remove any fort counter from a river port space unless that space is a nation's capital. A fort may be rebuilt in the same space.

C

1

Big Crow Tunnel is blown up

If the CSA controls Tullahoma and Stevenson the railway connection between these spaces is replaced by a road.

C

2

Union War Profiteer

Union removes any 2 Union SPs

C

3

Limited Negro Rights

Emancipation must have been played.

CSA Strategic Will must be <50

Remove from game when played.

  1. Reduce CSA Strategic Will by 10.
  2. CSA receives 1 more SP per reinforcement phase.
  3. If the CSA wins a major battle in this or the next turn foreign intervention occurs.

Virginia brought in a bill to give limited Negro rights and raised some Negro troops. This was too late in the war to do any good. The associated political efforts for foreign recognition were hampered by the low likelihood of a CSA victory. The card can only be played when the CSA is desperate enough to think of it and requires a major victory to get any lasting good from it,
