November 7, 2004 It now is never ending. Everyday there is more evidence of mans incredible, irresponsible destruction of the planet that we live on. California recently"sued" tuna three big canned tuna companies for not warning customers that they are exposed to potentially harmful levels of mercury. The suit was filed in San Francisco Civil Court, claiming that the companies vilolated state Proposition 65, an initiative approved in 1986 that requires business to give "clear and reasonable" warnings before exposing known carcinogens or reproductive toxins. Mercury and mercury compounds have been listed as known cancer causing chemicals since 1990. The complaint seeks to bar the companies from selling tuna in California without providing a warning , which could be posted in grocery stores aisles or labels on the cans. Personally, I have no problem with this suit. I know I want to to be informed if food which I am eating has toxins which , over the long term, prove to be cancer causing. In fact I DEMAND that we have the right to know such things. I find that omissions of these warnings would be "criminal" in nature. Ok Charlie the tuna, its time for you to give it up. I always knew that you never tasted good enough, but I never thought you had mercury in you. Shame on you for poisoning me. Actually shame on the big tuna canners for throwing mercury in the can when they process you I know its their fault. Let me call my lawyer now and let the consumer lawsuits begin. What a grim future we face. Its a fact that we, mankind (meaning both men and women) have needlessly polluted all of the oceans. In fact, mecury contamination has been found in freshwater fish as well, in all bodies of water, not just a select few. How much longer will it be before all fish are inedible? How much longer can the fish survive the toxic waters? How can 6 billion people live peacefully with the elements necessary for healthy living being destroyed at an incredible pace? I have no doubt that in the next few years mankind will continue to pollute at even faster rates. It will cause problems of unimaginable magnitude. I hope God will answer my prayers and guide us so our children will have a future. January 14, 2005 It's finally offical. The USDA finally issued its recommendations for dietary guidelins and exercise. 11 of the top scientits and doctors spent over 1 year reviewing EVERY possible diet and exercise progam. It comes as no surprise that they found no magic pill, no silver bullet. In fact the only thing new is that, as always, there is no secret. Good health as related to weight management must be rooted in personal responsibility. The are no magic pills that make it" quick, easy and work like magic." It is not complicated like many would have you believe. But it is difficult. It lies in the consistent application of healthy nutrition and DAILY exercise for 30-90 minutes a day. Thats right. No typo here. 30-90 mins daily. Those who claim their products produce "outstanding" results in 20 minutes 3 times a week it is going to be a wakeup call. I am willing to bet the tort lawyers see this as an opportunity for lawsuits, and at some point they will win. TO BE CONTINUED |
