SO YOU THINK YOU ARE A MASON?
What a mistake it is for a person to think that just because he was raised to the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason, that he is, in fact, a Mason. Well, perhaps you can try to fool yourself and the whole world into thinking such, but receiving the Third Degree only authorized you access to do and read certain things. In other words, it afforded you the opportunity to receive more light in order to assist you in making yourself a Mason. Do you remember when the Master said, “You are not yet a Mason, nor do I know that you will ever be?” What a pity it is that so many believe they are Masons just because they went through the three degrees. We tend to take the meaning of Masonry too lightly. We make no attempt whatsoever to discover the many secrets and mysteries of our profession. Worst of all, we tend to practice Masonry each and every day of our lives. How often we turn our backs on TEMPERANCE, FORTITUDE, JUSTICE, AND TRUTH. Simply cast aside our rituals and keep on doing things and saying things that go completely against all of our teachings of Masonry. Why does this happen? Perhaps it’s because deep down inside, a person only wanted to become a Mason to satisfy his curiosity, or, because he thought that he would be getting something other than what he got. One must work diligently on a daily basis to smooth out his physical, mental, and spiritual self in order that he may fit perfectly in that building not made with hands, eternal in the Heavens. Don’t cast the common gavel aside. You were taught the use of this tool very early in your travels. Study the symbolical meaning of this tool closely. It will open the door to some of the many mysteries of your profession.

BELIEVE IN YOURSELF
Believe that you have the destiny, the innate ability to become all you have or will expect of life. Experience all of life's peaks and plateaus, examine the meaning of life's struggles and accomplishments. There you will find the meaning of life and life's labor. Trust in your deeply hidden feelings, because they will show the person that you are. Grasp each opportunity, and make the most of it.
Know the person that you are, and the needs that your life holds. Search deeply to capture the essence of life. Find your limitations and build upon them. Create within yourself a person who is strong and possesses a tremendous amount of fortitude. We know that life will offer some disappointments, but remember, through those situations, you will only become a more stronger, and more stable person. Don't overlook obstacles, but work through them. Remember that each road you travel will offer some difficulties. If life were meant to be easy, there would be no challenges and no rainbows. |
