Politicians Destroying Democracy By Stephen Gray "If you put this vote through without us having a recorded vote, then as far as I'm concerned, democracy is dead in Ontario" ( Conservative MPP Bill Murdoch, quoted in Toronto Star, 28 Feb 2005.) We elect people to public office because that is the way democracy works. We consent to be ruled by these people after hearing what they stand for. We believe these people have principles, morals and decency and believe in freedom. Yet, look at what happens when many of them get to the halls of power. Principles become perverted. Morals become manipulated. Decency becomes disposable and freedom becomes a farce. Witness the latest subversion of freedom in the Legislature of Ontario. The same-sex marriage bill was passed without a debate or a recorded vote. Only three MPPs had the courage to stand up and be counted on this issue and “demand a recorded vote.”( Toronto Star, 28 Feb 2005.) The rest conspired with each other to have a voice vote, while others were absent. They were so “proud” of this aberration called same-sex marriage they were afraid to be seen going on the record to vote for it. “You will find no record anywhere of where the vast majority of elected reps stand on this issue.” (Columnist Christina Blizzard, Toronto Sun, March 4,2005). Numerous statutes in Ontario will now have to be changed that defines man and woman. The language will be twisted into a corruption of words to satisfy politically imposed nonsense. Man and woman will be erased. A cynical person might say it is many politicians who need to be erased from public life and made to go for counseling. What kind of mentality do these politicians have that they betray the public trust and subvert democracy to impose an aberration on society? These political swindlers should be removed from public life. In fact if they had any decency left they would resign in shame. But, many politicians have no shame anymore. Many of them have turned lying into a profession. They are an insult to all that is decent and true and have destroyed democracy. Canada has: "A role in fostering democracy and freedom." (Prime Minister, Paul Martin quoted on CTV, March 4, 2005. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/1109984162420_45 ) Freedom and democracy has not only been destroyed in Ontario just look at the federal Liberal governments position on this baloney called “same-sex marriage.” The Prime Minister (PM) declares there will be a “free vote” on this claptrap, but declares his cabinet must support this aberrant definition of “marriage.” So much for a “free vote” when his cabinet is compelled to support it. Yet this political hypocrite has the gall to stand up and say he supports the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Yet he suppresses the freedom of conscience of his own cabinet. This is the same man who told the people there was a “democratic deficit” in the country. Now we know what he meant. He is the author of the “democratic deficit.” He also opposes a referendum on “same-sex marriage.” The people must not be allowed to vote on this perversion of words called Bill C-38, they might consign this piece of nonsense to the political garbage can where it belongs. So, no vote for the people. This is another example of democracy being destroyed by a politician under the guise of imaginary “rights” being non votable. “Rights are rights are rights” Justice Minister, Irwin Cotler on same-sex marriage. Of course “rights” is the buzzword that is used to justify political deceit. This bilge called “same-sex marriage” was never in the Charter. The people were never allowed to vote on acceptance of this Charter. Yet the people are ruled by a document they did not give consent to. How can this be democratic? Politicians are elected democratically. Once elected they dump democracy and impose hypocrisy. Many of these politicians voted to keep the traditional definition of marriage as between a man and a woman. Now many of them have made liars of themselves and are going to vote for “same-sex marriage.” Can these people be trusted to run our country when they cannot be trusted to keep their word on the traditional definition of marriage? Trust is essential in a democracy and the people trusted these politicians by voting for them. A betrayal of trust should mean instant dismissal. But, we are saddled with these political thieves of democracy until the next election. Meanwhile, they are hell bent on destroying democracy.
