An Election Poem
By Stephen Gray

First the budget, then perhaps an election
Who will win that is the question?
Will it be Stephen or perhaps Stephane?
Will Stephen get another kick at the political can?

But what about Jack, some people might say
Oh, he’ll be there as part of the play
And don’t forget Gilles, he plays too
When his party separates they’ll say, “Merci Beaucoup”

What is the election issue?
It’s GREEN in case it missed you
Isn’t it nice to see these political men of GREEN?
Posturing and parading on the political scene

They have millions to spend of YOUR tax monies
Tax those suckers! Are we political loonies?
First they bribe you with your own tax dollar
Then they punish you from the halls of power

Still, never mind this is “democracy”
And where would it be without political hypocrisy?
So when the time comes get out and  mark your ballot
Whoever wins will hit you with a mallet

It’s only a political game that you get to play
Just enter an X in the place that they say
Punishment comes later whichever party is the elect
You will be taxed and  become a political subject
