A 2006 Labor Day Message to the "Indentured Servants"
By Stephen Gray “A union member is like an indentured servant.” Buzz Hargrove, President CAW, page 201 in his book “Labor of Love” Hello all you trade union "indentured servants." You will be “happy” to know that your compulsory union dues are still funding numerous special interest groups. In fact, the CAW National Executive Board is on record as stating it is going to, “double the CAW’s efforts in support of its social movement partners” (CAW News, March 24, 2006). One would think that these “efforts” would be better spent on laid-off CAW members, since it is their and other CAW members' compulsory union dues that are being used for these “social movement partners.” But hey, how would these so-called “social movements” survive without the aid of compulsory union dues? A longtime socialist had this to say: “Social activists of all sorts look to the CAW for leadership. Many organizations owe their existence to union support, and the CAW is a major financial player” (Duncan Cameron, Associate Publisher of rabble.ca March 29, 2006). So there you have it confirmed by one in the know, that others are feeding off your union dues. Still, at least you can sing “Solidarity Forever” as you get milked of your hard earned money for the sake of the “social activists” causes. In other news, I see Brother Buzz of the Canadian Auto Workers Union (CAW) got booted out of the socialist party. He is reportedly very angry about it. Ah, poor Buzz, he handed over CAW members' hard earned money for years to the socialists and this is the thanks he gets. A big socialist boot to his derriere. Still, it was probably a union made boot and had the union label so that is a least some consolation for poor old Buzz. Hey, maybe Paul Martin will give him another big liberal hug and a liberal shoulder to cry on now that Buzz has been disowned by the socialists. I wonder if Buzz could accuse the socialists of a “hate crime?" After all, the “hate crime” epithet covers just about everything these days. Or maybe Buzz could go to the Human Rights Commission and claim he was “discriminated” against for his “socialist principles.” In other news, I see the B.C. Nurses Union lost some of its union members' money recently. According to the Vancouver Sun of July 7, 2006, there was “misappropriation of about $700,000 by the union’s former finance director…” The article went on to say that “ The union did not report the matter to police…” Does this give new meaning to the phrase “Solidarity Forever?” And of course Mr. Solidarity himself, Ken Georgetti, the Big Union Boss of the Collective Labour Corporation, oops, I mean the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC), had this to say regarding politicians: “I think for too long politicians have been allowed to ignore the needs of their working class constituents in favour of what they think are loftier goals.” [1] Well, well, well, is this hypocrisy from Brother Ken? These union bosses have been ignoring “the needs” of their members in favour of the “loftier goals” of special interest groups and using their compulsory members time and money to do so. This is the guy who sent out a letter, when he was president of the B.C. Federation of Labour (BCFL) soliciting funds for an abortion clinic. And as president of the CLC had this to say on the so-called “same-sex marriage” nonsense: “With the passage of the federal equal marriage legislation, Canada has taken an important step forward. "The labour movement - from local activists to national leadership - stood united with the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender community and played a critical role in persuading the Canadian government to pass the same-sex marriage law. *** "The Canadian Labour Congress was a founding member of the broad-based coalition, Canadians for Equal Marriage which led this struggle.” [2] There you have it from the big mouth of the big labour boss: “The Canadian Labour Congress was a founding member of the broad-based coalition, Canadians for Equal Marriage which led this struggle” for so called “equal marriage.” Of course the big labour boss and bosses never polled the 3 million union members of the CLC on this issue. But hey, as Brother Buzz says: “A union member is like an indentured servant.” And that is the reason why this trade union dictatorship survives in Canada and gets away with squandering their membership's time and money on non-work related issues. Legislation is needed to control these trade union bosses and a public inquiry is needed into the misuse of union dues in Canada. Collective bargaining has evolved into collective coercion. And Brother Buzz Hargrove of the CAW, in the Financial Post, August 3, 2004, had this to say: “Restrict ourselves to bargaining only - not on your life!” And another union big shot, Larry Brown, Secretary Treasurer of the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) is on record as saying this: “We are involved in matters which have to do with the social direction of Canada and not just issues at the bargaining table…” Stephen Gray Sept. 2, 2006. graysinfo@yahoo.ca website http://www.oocities.org/graysinfo Endnotes: [1] http://canadianlabour.ca/index.php/Opinion_Editorials/749 [2] http://www.canadianlabour.ca/index.php/pride_sol/Its_Time_to_Celebrat |
