LIBERAL PARTY TWO
By Stephen Gray

The election is over and a newspaper report says the
Conservatives have decided to move to the “centre.”
Where is the centre? The centre is where the Liberals
and the Conservatives can be as one. Two Liberal
parties espousing the same morality but with different
names. Perhaps, the Conservative Party could change
its name to Liberal Party Two.

Then we could have two parties under the Liberal
Banner. Just think, no matter who defeated the other,
you could always have a Liberal government in power.
This would be good for the people in Ontario and the
rest of the Eastern part of the country, because there
would be two Liberal choices on the ballot  and it
would not be such a strain on their thought processes
trying to figure out that there is little or no
differences’  between the parties on moral issues.

Liberal Party Two could also proudly announce that it
would like to bring all the old Tories back into
Liberal Party Two. Perhaps even a former leader of the
old P.C’s could be persuaded to come back into the
fold.  He is intelligent enough to know when hypocrisy
has returned to the political arena.  He was a
supporter of some Liberal’s anyway,  so it would be
just like old times again, everybody back in the
Liberal family. All members of the Club in the House
on the Hill. All pretending to oppose, while anything
“morally” liberal goes. That old saying, Liberal,
Tory, same old story would be an apt description of
this return to the “centre.” Of course they might have
differences on monetary policy. But then money has
never been known for having morality, just look at all
the Corporate Chiefs and companies who donated money
to the Liberals despite all the scandals. So there
should be no real problems. Only differences in
dispensing it.

The Liberal media would no longer have to worry about
the Liberal Party being defeated because Liberalism
would be the doctrine of the country. Or as one paper
editorialized: “…Canada is a socially liberal nation.”
This from a newspaper that pretends it is of
conservative bent. The only challenge for the media
would be to find an issue to write about during
elections. The abortion issue would be dead literally.
Since both the Liberal Party and Liberal Party Two are
advocates of “choice” on abortion.  There would be no
story for the media there.  Still there is always the
“Charter of Rights and Freedoms,” that is always good
for a supportive article from the media. Possibly they
could ask some questions on that and if they didn’t
get the appropriate political response they could go
into personal attack mode.  Any politician  who had
escaped being “purged” and who said this document was
a curse on the country would be publicly humiliated
and the media would demand an apology from the party.
Who dutifully would oblige.

Another task for the media would be making sure
Liberalism held true to its “values.” Therefore those
politicians now in Liberal Party Two who had had the
courage of their convictions on moral matters and
advocated decency, could perhaps be asked to sign a
pledge agreeing to the  “moral” principles of
liberalism. That way there would be no need for them
to be “expunged” from Liberal Party Two. In fact, if
they did this, it is probable most of the media would
write congratulatory columns about them and praise
them for having the courage to rid themselves of
“extremist principles.” The media always recognize
fellow travelers and are adept in the practice of
hypocrisy. In fact, veteran journalist, George Bain,
in his book : Gotcha! How the Media Distort the News,
had this to say about these word propaganda merchants:
"the purpose of investigative reporting has become
less to find out than to denounce." On page 108 he
goes on to speak of "...the unholy accord between
media and interest groups." And on page 116, Mr. Bain
writes of "...the creation of sacred subjects that may
not be touched except with reverence..."  We saw these
‘sacred subjects’ raised during the election by the
media and those who did not give the acceptable
answers were pilloried. So if the principled
politicians sign this pledge and denounce their
principles they could become “mainstream.”  And there
would be no more talk in “journalist” quarters of
having to “boot out” or “muzzle” them because of their
“blatherings.”  Nothing “upsetting” would be said
anymore. Who said journalists believed in free speech
and free expression anyway? Surely people should know
by this time that the media decide what is
permissible. That’s why so many  politicians bow,
scrape and grovel to get media approval of their
policies. Power without principles is politically
correct.

The other political parties like the NDP and the BLOC
would also be on side. On “moral issues” they all sing
from the same song book as the Liberals. So now all
the parties would be “morally correct” as well as
politically correct. Lackeys of liberalism with no
dissenters.

The Liberal “Charter of Rights and Freedoms” would no
longer be under attack and judges could park their
posteriors on The Bench knowing they were free to
“read in” their judicial hearts’ desires without being
criticized. Tolerance, diversity, comfort zones,
values, middle of the road, inclusive, moderate,
choice and all the other code words for political
correctness would still be in fashion. Political and
judicial liberalism could flourish unchallenged. We
could have an orgy of liberalism.

In fact as same-sex weddings are the order of the
judicial day, perhaps we could have a “wedding” or a
“civil union” celebration of  the convergence of the
Liberal Party and Liberal Party Two. They could have a
written separation agreement; to agree to disagree,
and the people would still think they had a political
choice. But, Liberalism would just be one “big tent”
covering all the politicians. The media would be happy
that Liberalism was safe and that the “dinosaurs” were
now extinct and that “loopy” views such as truth,
decency and morality had finally been suppressed. Now
the next election would be a contest between The
Liberals and Liberal Party Two and liberalism would
always be the winner.
