The Politically Correct Media Gives Advice to Stephen Harper
By Stephen Gray "He [Harper] must resist the pleadings of his more doctrinaire supporters who would seek to impose their social values on others." [1] Well, well, well, just what do the above words from the Irrational Post, oops sorry, I mean National Post translate to? Are they politically correct code words from the National Post? The Asper conglomerate owns the Post and a stable of other newspapers in Canada, so should Mr. Harper listen to them? After all, this is the same National Post in its edition of May 19, 2005 which had a column headlined by its Chairman David Asper: “Harper’s Tin Ear”, where Chairman David stated, “… observers are starting to take note of the nomination of socially conservative candidates in British Columbia. A pro-life, anti- gay-marriage agenda is the last thing the party needs to make inroads in Ontario and Quebec.” There are many pro-life people in Ontario and Quebec, so why would Chairman David make such a silly comment? Is he biased? Surely David Asper should know that pro-life people and people opposed to so called homosexual marriage have human rights too. After all a “Human Rights Museum” which is reportedly “Asper inspired…”[2] is to receive “$100-million” [3] of taxpayers dollars. Therefore, traditional family supporters and pro-life peoples’ taxes will be helping to pay for this government grant to the “Asper inspired museum….” [2] So it would be a nice touch from them if their “Human Rights Museum” had a memorial to all the innocent children slaughtered by abortionists in Canada and around the world. Perhaps it should even show pictures of these atrocities alongside other depravities committed on people whose lives were considered unworthy of living. Perhaps even a picture of Canada’s most notorious abortionist who criticizes and insults people opposed to his killing of the child in the womb, which he calls “choice.” Over to you National Post on these suggestions, what do you think? Still the National Post was not the only Asper mouthpiece to trumpet its politically correct views. An editorial in the Asper owned Calgary Herald had this to say about some Conservative MPs in the Conservative Party receiving cabinet posts in the new Harper government: "[Jim] Prentice, on the other hand, has stature in the party. He finished second in the 2003 PC leadership race.... And as one of the few Conservatives to support Liberal legalization of same-sex marriage, his promotion could play well with social progressives.... …[ Jason] Kenney's strong pro-life views are likely to limit his advancement." [4] Wow, do the Asper media have inside information? One Conservative MPs endorsement of so-called homosexual marriage gives him “stature” in the party according to the Asper organ and this should entitle him to a “promotion” even though the majority of Conservative MPs voted against this lunacy in the last parliament. They then go on to say that: “…[ Jason] Kenney's strong pro-life views are likely to limit his advancement." Gee, I wonder if Mr. Harper will listen to the Asper media? Did we elect them to dictate how the country should be run and who should receive cabinet posts? Are the Asper media trying “to impose their social values on others?" Should Stephen Harper even listen to the politically correct media, and if he doesn’t will they write more columns like: “Harper’s Tin Ear?” Stephen Gray January 26, 2006. graysinfo@yahoo.ca website: http://www.oocities.org/graysinfo Endnotes: 1 http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/news/editorialsletters/story.html?id=c768b9a6-bb8d-42fb-ab32-2c9b895281bd&p=2 2 http://www.cjnews.com/viewarticle.asp?id=6185 3 http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/news/story.html?id=51bd2a5b-277f-4f5a-9809-965712152951 4 http://www.canada.com/calgaryherald/news/theeditorialpage/story.html?id=ea75bde2-5dbf-45ca-9636-7c169da53 |
