The Liberal Syndrome
By Stephen Gray

“The Stockholm Syndrome” was named after a group of people taken hostage who identified with their captors in a bank robbery in Stockholm in 1973. In Canada today, in the province of Ontario - according to the polls - most of the voters in Ontario identify with the federal Liberal Party, despite being robbed of their tax dollars and would vote them back into office if an election was held. While these people are not hostages they certainly appear to be captive to unsavory Liberal politics. How else does one explain their approval of political banditry? They appear to be prepared to tolerate political corruption by the Liberals by continuing to give them support despite all the evidence from the Sponsorship Inquiry and other examples of political malfeasance. Is there any doubt these people are in the clutches of the Liberal Syndrome?

Those contemplating escape from the Liberal Syndrome are told that if they leave the Liberal fold, a “hidden agenda” will be used against them by the political forces opposed to Liberal corruption and that these people wishing to free them from Liberal power are “scary.” Could this be the reason most voters in Ontario are content to be in Liberal hands? Are they scared of freeing themselves from their political bonds? Does the abuse and misuse of their tax dollars mean nothing to them, that they would succumb to the apathy of the ignorant?

Those who succumbed to the “Stockholm Syndrome” were only captives of the bank robbers for a few days. Those suffering from Liberal Syndrome have voted themselves into Liberal captivity over many years and appear to have lost their ability to know the difference between what is right and what is wrong. Some even get angry when the evidence of Liberal political betrayal is shown to them and they go into denial. Many are so dependent on liberalism that they do not wish to escape from its custody; they are willing victims of political vice. They are political prisoners, but don’t know it and vote willingly to continue to give power to the Liberals.

Unfortunately, those suffering from Liberal syndrome are a burden to the rest of the country. Ontario has the most electoral seats and their voting decisions are a big factor in who controls the country. Most voters in Ontario are contented slaves of liberalism. This effectively means they have made the rest of the country, especially the west, hostage to the Liberal Syndrome. Still it is not only the people of Ontario who are suffering from Liberal Syndrome; politicians with no ethics, no principles, and suffering from moral bankruptcy have even crossed the floor and become captive to liberal politics. Those who once criticized corruption have now joined it and even defend it in the political House of Shame. Doubletalk has taken the place of straight talk and one socialist MP was heard to say about the Conservative leader, “He’s very attracted to the negative side of politics.” Oh really, since when was it “negative” to criticize and expose corruption?

Other opposition politicians who have criticized Liberal corruption have helped keep the Liberal government in power when they could have brought it down; as witness these words from NDP Leader Jack Layton, “We can't condone corruption, and are losing confidence in this prime minister.” ( NDP Leader Jack Layton http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/address_tothenation/layton_reax.html

Mr. Layton and his party voted with the Liberals on the Budget when his party could have helped bring this corrupt government down. Now Mr. Layton seems to have regained confidence in the prime minister, yet he says, “We can’t condone corruption.” Which raises the questions: Do promises of huge amounts of the peoples tax dollars being given away to NDP programs take precedence over unseating corruption in government? Does money wash everything clean? Could the NDP now be suffering from the Liberal Syndrome?

Many of the media also suffer from Liberal Syndrome. In fact one ass of the airwaves was heard telling a caller that those who supported the former Reform Party, “had no vision for the country.” Which raises the question: Surely it is better to have clean politics than this “vision” of the country which has become a political nightmare? But hey, the Liberal Syndrome has obviously affected his thought processes and this ass is obviously talking out of what he sits on. Does this make him an ass talker? Such is the “wisdom” of this talker of tripe. Still he is not the only media person who has lost focus. A media Chairman wrote a column about the leader of the opposition and said about him, “His angry, sanctimonious tone in recent weeks - whether justified or not - only turned off voters more.” He then goes on to say, “By putting the government’s political survival at stake, the Conservatives forced the Liberals to make a deal with the free-spending NDP.” One would have thought this media bigwig would have been more upset about the state of Liberal corruption than criticizing the leader of the opposition for trying to rid the country of political graft. Could this media czar be also suffering from Liberal Syndrome? But, there are others in the print media who seem to be incapable of recognizing the serious situation the country is in and continue to babble on about the Conservative leader being “angry” and “ unsmiling.” To which one can only reply to those media morons, corruption is not a smiling matter and any decent and honest person should be angry, unless of course they suffer from Liberal Syndrome.
