Please tell other homeschoolers about our activities and share this newsletter.  Meetings will occur every Thursday, 1-3 p.m., at the Leitchfield City Park, at the picnic tables and shelters near the back of the park.   Watch our website for changes and field trips.

OPEN MEETING:
We are holding an open meeting for all members of our group, all interested people, and/or anyone with questions about homeschooling on Thursday, August 18, 2005, at 6:30 p.m. at the Leitchfield City Park main pavilion.  We have reserved the pavilion for the meeting.  Announcements will appear in both the Record and the News-Gazette.  The President of the KHEA, Connie Laffin, will be available for questions and will share some of her knowledge and experience as a homeschooler.  The main purpose of the meeting is to help everyone understand the legal requirements of homeschooling, rights of parent-teachers, options for educating and so on.   Another school year is beginning and people are necessarily full of questions, doubts, new ideas and theories (just like any educators should be).   Come to this meeting with your friends, family, acquaintances, and also with your questions and concerns.  Also, those of you who can, or would like to, please bring something to drink, or snack on, to share with the group.  It would be nice to provide a little light finger food for our guests and guest speaker.  Please call Anne/Alex or Meredith with questions.  Thanks!

Grayson County Homeschoolers Website:
Remember our website: http://www.oocities.org/graysoncountyhomeschoolers   We hope to use this website as a yearly calendar/field trip alert and to spread the word about activities this year.

Honey Festival Float:
Some have mentioned that building a float for the Honey Festival would be fun and educational for the group.  This is great – and this idea needs someone who can get some of us organized!  Please volunteer.

Events:
Organization is the key to an effective group.  Other groups meet at about this time of year to schedule field trips for the entire rest of the year.  That way, everybody knows what’s coming up and can schedule accordingly.  Please begin to gather your ideas about what you would like to do this year and bring those ideas to a future meeting. We will schedule a specific meeting for calendaring events, and will need everyone’s input.  Each idea/field trip will need a specific person in charge of it.  That person will schedule it, provide information as the trip comes closer, and keep everyone updated.  In this way, the tasks get spread out amongst the whole group and no one is overworked.

If you can't make a meeting, let us know and we'll make sure you don't miss out on any information! Contact Anne & Alex: anne.heintzman@colorado.edu or 270-242-0868.
