Greater Mohican Christmas Bird Counts
There are several Christmas Bird Counts (CBCs) that occur within the
Greater Mohican Audubon Society's area.  In keeping with a tradition that
started over 100 years ago in Oberlin, Ohio, CBC participants count the
birds, recording species and numbers.  Counts occur on various days,
which allow participants to work more than one count in their area.

The data collected from these counts have provided a basic understanding
of the trends of bird species, i.e. whether a particular specie population is
rising or falling in numbers and/or localities.  The "citizen scientists" provide
the leg work for this research data, which would be impossible to cover as
thoroughly, without these knowledgeable  volunteers.  That being said, it is a
whole heck of a lot of fun too!
< Wooster CBC, run  by Roger Troutman,
starts with a hearty breakfast at Bob Evan's

and meets again for  lunch and further
brainstorming at Funk Country Store.

The census area is plotted on maps and divided among different teams (pictured above).  Each team
must keep accurate records of the species and number of birds seen in their area.  Gathering at lunch
to compile their lists, the Mohican CBC meets  in the parking lot of Pleasant Hill Dam to call out their
  results.(pictured below).

  A big "Thank you" to

  important event.
