JOTI-Jamboree On The Internet

The World Scout Jamboree On The Internet is an international Scout Meeting (an official event of the World Organization of the Scout Movement-aka WOSM) on the Internet which takes places every year on the third weekend of october.

During that weekend Scouts from all over the world communicate with each other over the Internet, using any technologies locally available, from web browsers to e-mail, chat programs, microphones, scanners and digital cameras. JOTI is combined with the Jamboree On The Air (JOTA), an event where Scouts can communicate with each other over radio amateur frequencies with the assistance of a local radio amateur crew.

This is an excellent way to build friendships with Scouts in other countries and to find out more about their scouting and everyday life.

During Joti 1997 our troop met the Long Whatton and Diseworth Scouts from the UK. We built a friendship between the two scout troops and they invited us to attend the international scout camp Sherwood '98 with them. We agreed and in July 1998, we flew to London, and began a 3 week adventure with them. We camped at Gilwell Camp, built by Lord and Lady Baden-Powell for Scouts and Guides to use. We toured spots of interest in London, including Pax Lodge (Girl Guide and Scout World Centre) and the Baden-Powell House, Buckingham Palace for the changing of the Guard, and Parlament. We attended Sherwood '98 and met Scouts and Guides from many countries and made lasting friendships and memories.

We have participated in Joti now for 5 years.
