ATTY. ED BATACAN finished his
law studies at the Ateneo de Davao University in 1990
with honors (cum laude). He passed the bar in 1991 with a
rating of 82.25%. His highest grade was 96% in Remedial
Law. During his senior year, he participated in the Clinical Legal Education program of the Ateneo Law School that saw him appear before the courts and quasi-judicial bodies defending indigent clients. He was awarded Most Outstanding Legal Intern during his graduation in 1990. His concern for the poor and the oppressed did not stop from there. After passing the bar, he joined the Ateneo Legal Services Office providing legal aid to poor litigants. He also joined the Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG) where, in 1994, he was awarded a plaque of appreciation by the Task Force Detainees of the Philippines (TFDP) for his commitment to human rights and dedicated service to political prisoners and other victims of human rights violations. For three consecutive years (1996-1998) he received recognition from the City of Davao for his dedicated and untiring efforts extended to the City's physically and sexually abused children. In 1997 during the commemoration of the International Human Rights Day, the. Women Network Group gave recognition to his unselfish and dedicated service in the pursuit of justice for the women and children victims of rape, incest, child abuse and violence against women. Ed Batacan aside from being the ManagingPartner of the BATACAN & MONTEJO Law Firm, is also a faculty of the Ateneo de Davao University -College of Law teaching Civil Law (Property), Commercial Law (Negotiable Instruments Law), Law on Natural Resources, and Environmental Law. He is the founder and moderator of Green Juris, a university-based environmental law organization. He is a member (former Vice-Grand Archon) oftheTAU MU Fraternity and currently the President of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP), Davao City Chapter. He was also the Legal Consultant on Environment of the Office of the City Mayor, Davao City. He is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) at the University of Mindanao (UM) in 1979. He earned his masters degree in Business Administration (MBA) at the University of Southeastern Philippines (USEP) in 1986. Ed Batacan makes a loyal, honest and courageous friend, and most of all, he has a deep sense of justice, and always inspires confidence. Ed Batacan was born on March 30, 1958 of parents Elpidio Dumlao Batacan of (Batac and Paoay) llocos Norte and Francisca Culanag of (Bayombong) NuevaVizcaya.
