N.C. 1761 to prove will of John Hicks with Alexander Gordan, who married
daughter of John Lee d1787 Fairfield Co. S.C. According to Carolina Cradle,
Settlement of the N.W. Carolina Frontier, by Robert W. Ramsey: "John Frohock,
probably the frontier's most prosperous citizen, named 38 slaves in his
will, dated 1768. (Rowan Co. wills) "It is probable that by 1762, John
Frohock was the wealthiest and most influential inhabitant of the NW Carolina
frontier. 15 years had passed since the arrival of the Bryans & Catheys,
James Carter and John Dunn. Frolock was the dominant figure during the
decade between the end of the French and Indian War and the outbreak of
the Revolution. John Frohock was one of the 4 sons of John Frohock Sr.
who migrated to America sometime between 1720-1730 (Other 3 sons: Thomas
Frohock, William Frohock and Hugh Froloch). The Frolochs evidently came
to the colonies with the Parker family, with whom they settled in the vicinity
of Newtown, Bucks Co. Pa. There, John Froloch Jr. probably came to know
Squire Boone and James Carter. Following the death of Thomas Parker (1742)
and John Frohock Sr. (1748), many of their kinsmen lefft Pennyslvania for
the newly opened lands to the southward. The younger John Frohock acted
as an associate of his uncle, Hugh Parker, a wealthy merchant of Prince
Georges (later Frederick) Co. Md. and a key figure in the trading activities
of the newly organized Ohio Co. (See Kenneth P. Bailey, The Ohio Company
of Va. and the Western Movement) After Hugh Parker died in 1751,the Frohocks
and the Parkers (including Robert Parker and Thomas Parker) removed to
east-central N.C., where they acquired lands in Northampton, Edgecombe,
Halifax and Granville.
