As your child, I was willful, brave, and strong;
With your gentle love, you steered me from wrong.
As your teenager, I was smarter than my own good;
With your gentle love, you always understood.
As your young adult, I had the world by the tail;
With your gentle love, you made it OK to fail.
As your grown woman, my childhood almost to its end;
With your gentle love, you have become my best friend.
As your friend, I came to you with my sorrow, and my pain,
With your gentle love, you have shown me how to gain.
I say this to you my best friend, and my mother;
Because of your gentle love, we have a bond like no other.
