Calvin J. McCarthy

ALBANY Calvin McCarthy, better known as C.J., 80, died March 6, 2005 at Albany Medical Center. Born in Miss., 
he was the son of Lucy Oakley and the late Jeremiah McCarthy. A resident of Albany for over 60 years, 
Calvin worked construction for Local 190 for over 50 years. While at Local 190, his assignments entailed the 
building of the Empire State Plaza, Albany Medical Center, Memorial Hospital, St. Peter's Hospital and a number of 
other popular landmarks. He also was a labor for the Port of Albany Shipping Dock. Calvin enjoyed being a handyman 
working on cars, electrical equipment, piping and roofing. He leaves to cherish his memory a beautiful wife of 
47 years, Bettie L. (McGill) McCarthy; his beloved mother, Lucy Oakley; his cherished six sons, James Anthony of 
Mobile, Ala., Raymond (Kim) of Selkirk, Levell (Tiffany) of Detroit, Mich., Mello, Michael and Shaquille of Albany; 
his daughters, Carolyn (Arcel), Beverly of Liverpool, N.Y., Sandra of Schenectady, Mearies (James), Janet (Paul), 
Heather, Monique (Tony) of Decatur, Ga., Christi (Daryl) of Rochester, Ericka (Tyrone) and Marcy. Also survived by 
a host of grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Funeral service 1:00 p.m. Friday at St. John's C.O.G.I.C., 
94 Herkimer St. with Elder McKinley Johnson officiating. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the church on 
Friday 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Interment, Graceland Cemetery.
