Roger sneers, "Do you honestly think that your boyfriend is interested in you? Or your money?"
Leo's heart stops. He had been supporting Greenlee when her father abandoned her and pretended not to know her in front of Erica. Fortunately, Erica was smart enough to see Roger Smythe for who he is. She left him. "You disgust me, Roger," Erica had proclaimed.
Looking at Roger, Leo sees a mirror reflection of himself that is, before he met Greenlee. She is his match, with as many tricks up her sleeve as him. He never dreamed of falling for her, but he did.
"Leo is honest," Greenlee defends him. "I trust him!"
"Trust", she had said. The thing that every good relationship is built on, and now, he feels like a hypocrite for not telling her who he used to be.
Roger laughed. "He is Vanessa's son, Greenlee. Think about it! Why do you think he even approached you in the first place?"
Greenlee is getting exasperated and retorted, "You know what? I'm wasting my breath. From now on, you are nothing to me. You got that? Roger? Nothing!"
Leo follows her as she storms out. She is hurt and is trying hard not to show it. Putting his arms around her, Leo says, "You did the right thing."
Greenlee turns around and looks at him with those big, brown, angel eyes of hers. "Can you believe what my father said? That you would be interested in me just because of my money! He was totally trying to change the subject! I am sorry you had to hear that."
The guilt is overwhelming Leo and at last, he must tell her. He MUST, but he's afraid to lose her. Afraid to be another disappointment in her life.
"Come with me," he told Greenlee.
They arrived at the boathouse several minutes later. Spring is in the air and the wildflowers, each with a slightly different hue, had claimed the area around the boathouse.
"This is a very special place. Won't you agree?" Leo asks.
A devilish smile surfaced on Greenlee's face. "It's the time when we admitted that we were more than just friends. You mentioned that you were going to bring me to Bhutan. Remember? And we were supposed to make love on the boat underneath the stars. Isn't that right, Pond Scum?"
It is such a great moment. Leo fears ruining it. Waiting another day wouldn't be so bad. The smile had lit up Greenlee's face, and he thought that she has never been more beautiful. Oh, if only he hadn't been so reckless and so obedient to his mother! Leo sighs. Procrastination would only delay the inevitable.
"Greenlee, there's something that I must tell you," Leo begins. "When I first came to Pine Valley with my mother, what can I say? I was a fool."
"Leo, I don't know what you're getting at" Greenlee looks perplexed.
"Please, Greens, let me continue. Well" Leo is stuttering at this point. "We were scammers. And our next target wasyou. During that time, I was interested only in your money."
There, he had said it. Leo looked up. Greenlee's face--it was surprise, mingled with hurt and what? Disbelief?
"I have to go!" Greenlee picks up her bag and prepares to leave. She is struggling not to cry.
"Wait! Greenlee! Please don't run away!" He can't lose her. Not now, not ever!
"You are just like my father! He left me. You left me. He is interested only in my money. Just like you are! You promised me that you weren't going to hurt me! Good-bye Leo!" Greenlee is sobbing uncontrollably at this point.
She tries to leave, but Leo grabs her. "Let me go! Let me go!" Greenlee struggles.
"Greens. Baby, please! I fell in love with you against my will and against Vanessa's will. I love you! I would never hurt you intentionally! Please!" Leo cries.
Greenlee breaks free. "Stay away from me. I don't want to see you ever again." She staggers out of the boathouse and leaves him.
"Dammit!" Leo exclaims and pounds on the wall of the boathouse. He isn't going to lose her. He can't.
Sprinting into the park, he sees Greenlee in the arms of Jake Martin! Jake has his claws all around her, petting her hair and whispering in her ear. Now, Jake is leaning to kiss her cheek. Leo realizes that Jake is secretly in love with Greenlee. Just wonderful. As if the terrible secret isn't enough, now, he has to overcome Jake Martin. Leo suddenly knows how Ryan had felt when he was trying to convince Gillian to leave Jake and go back to him.
Leo has been in agony for the next few weeks. Each day, Greenlee would ignore his phone calls, and Jake was there to prevent him from visiting. And he knew in his gut that every day that goes by, Greenlee and Jake were getting closer. Suddenly, life has lost all meaning for him. He, Leo DuPres, who had once enjoyed the danger and excitement in his vivacious life, has nothing else to live for if Greenlee is lost to him.
Sighing, he decides to go for a walk out on the streets of Pine Valley. Sauntering through the streets of Pine Valley, Leo tunes out the chattering voices of the residents and the cars as they zoom by. Who should he see, but an angel! Greenlee is crossing the street; her golden hair reflected the rays of the sun. Suddenly, a car rockets by. Leo realizes with alarm that the car would hit Greenlee if she doesn't run, and run fast enough. Frantically, Leo dashes to the middle of the street, and pushes Greenlee out in order to avoid the car.
"CRASH!" Leo feels a sharp pain and gradually loses consciousness. The last thing he hears is a shriek by Greenlee calling his name.
When he wakes up, Leo sees Greenlee's mangled hair and dark circles under her eyes.
"Leo! You're awake!" Her melodious voice was music to his ears.
"Greens," he croaks.
"Don't say a word! I'll call the nurses!" Greenlee scurries outside and came back with a swarm of doctors and nurses.
"Young man, you are very lucky," a gray-haired doctor commented. "All your injuries are minor and you should be back in no time. But we must keep you in the hospital for several days to make sure you are perfectly fine. In the meantime, get plenty of rest and eat healthy foods. We'll leave you with your girlfriend."
"Girlfriend". Leo suddenly feels his heart rising and the hope, that he had suppressed, returning.
"Leo I'm sorry I ever doubted that you loved me." Greenlee's eyes are welling up with tears.
"Greens I broke up with you because I didn't want to hurt you at first. But then, I couldn't live without you. So, I came back." Leo stutters. He found it hard to speak. And he was feeling sleepy. Seems like the medicine was having its effects. But he must get one thing out before he dozes off,
"Greens, you know I love you," he begins.
Greenlee smiles and replies, "I love you too Leo." Jake is out of the picture. Leo knows that Greenlee's heart will always belong to him now and forever.
"You would make me the happiest man if you would be my wife. Would you marry me?" Leo proposes.
Greenlee leans forward and the two share a loving, tender kiss.
