About the webmistress

I am a liberal Christian and former Independent voter who switched to the Green Independent party because I found its platform was something I could sign off on.   I got my wake up call when I cast my vote for Clinton, then watched in horror as he slid so far right as to make Nixon look like a "bleeding heart liberal".  So no more blindly casting ballots based on party and trusting that the person elected will take care of business.  I now make an effort to write to my elected officials and tell them what is on my mind no matter what their party affiliation.  This is not a privilege, it's a duty.

Despite choosing a party affiliation, I like to research the issues and the candidates rather than vote strictly along party lines.  So while I mostly vote for Greens, I've also cast a ballot or two for Independents, Republicans, Socialists, GeoLibertarians, and Democrats. (Personally, I was hoping Dennis Kucinich or Carol Moseley-Braun take the Democratic nomination for '04, but I will vote for Kerry/Edwards because I don't personally care for George Bush's policies and don't wish to see him in the White House again.)

I have been against the concept of two-party government for many years. I don't like the way our system shuts out so many candidates and minimizes the options and power of the voter at the ballot box.   I hate the way politics has become nothing but a game about fundraising and sweetheart deals.  And I can't stand the fact that the Congress still does not look like an accurate sample of the American electorate.  Hence the reason why I put up the reform suggestions that are on the main page of the website.  I don't care what party you are a member of (if any).  I do care that you take the time into look those reform ideas and really consider them.

So if you've ever worried that American politicians spend too much time and money on the campaign trail, if you've ever felt like big business is crafting all of the legislation in our Capitol these days, if you've ever been so unexcited by the Big Two candidates in a major election that you didn't even bother to go to the polls, then give those reform methods some thought.

Thank you for your time.
