IPFW PARTICIPATES IN WORLD-WIDE EVENT FOR PEACE

The LYSISTRATA PROJECT is a world-wide theatrical event that uses staged readings of Aristophenes' Greek comedy LYSISTRATA to protest the impending war with Iraq. On March 3, at 5:30 p.m., a staged reading of LYSISTRATA will be held in Williams Theatre as a means for students and community members to participate in this international event.

In the play, women from opposing states in Greece have devised a unique way to end the war in their country: by withholding sex until their men lay down their arms. LYSISTRATA provides a humorous entrée into a healthy dialogue: What can we do on a local level to stop "diplomacy by violence" in our world?

The IPFW Department of Theatre, the Student Theatre Organization, the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Peace & Conflict Studies and Women's Studies co-sponsor this event with donations going to UNICEF.
