Kyrgyzstan and
its main features Kyrgyzstan is the heart and lungs of Central Asia (map), as here is where the rivers circulating throughout Central Asia start and it is here the ever-green high altitude forests pump the oxygen into the surrounding environment. Situated at the south-eastern border of Central Asia, Kyrgyzstan has been one of the most politically stable countries in the region. People here are hospitable and friendly, well educated, tolerant and open-minded. One of the highest mountain picks in the world – the Victory Pick – is located here at the altitude of 7439 meters, attracting the world’s best mountain climbers. A multitude of beautiful mountain lakes, the largest and most famous of which is Issyk Kul (180 km by 60km in length and width), are located at the altitude of 1600 m above the sea level and surrounded by a range of high mountains. In translation from the Kyrgyz language, Issyk Kul means “Hot Lake” as it is fed by warm mineral sources and never freezes. Issyk Kul is ranked as the 2-nd largest high altitude lake in the world that is part of the Biosphere Territories – specially looked after territories with unique lanscape, natural resources and historically inherited cultural set up. |
