Subject: Memorial service

I was fortunate to be able to attend the small memorial service held on Saturday to mark the 5th anniversary of the bodily departure of Metropolitan Paulos Mar Gregorios, held at Holy Transfiguration in Madison.

Father John-Brian, despite his injury, related the extraordinary life of Mar Gregorios and his vision for unity in the midst of diversity. He held to the
vision, though he did not see it realized in his lifetime.

It makes me wonder about my own prayers, and whether I have the patience to pray a prayer that may not be answered for decades or even centuries -- when I won't be around to see it. So the answer to the prayer benefits those who come after us, not we ourselves.  Mar Gregorios provides a wonderful example of that
kind of vision, which pulls us out of ourselves and our daily concerns.

Thanks to Father John-Brian and Teresa kochamma for their faithful service.

Pray for me,
Nancy
