This is a nice collection of material from the "Love You" album including alternate takes, live versions and demos. If you're a 'Love You' fan, you'll probably be into this stuff. Most of the demos and alternates are pretty straight-forward (fewer instruments and vocals etc.) Even in their rough versions, these songs are just so appealing.
If you haven't heard 'Love You,' it is truly Brian's last worthwhile effort as a Beach Boy. It's so strange that amid the horseshit on '15 Big Ones' and 'Adult Child,' Brian found it within himself to record an album of great songs. It's probably because the Beach Boys were at such a sorry state in their recording career by 1976 that they just let Brian do whatever the hell he wanted to. He definitely seems to work best under these conditions. Granted, the arrangements are a little hard to get used to, with the heavy-handed use of sythesizers. But if you have some patience with this album you'll find amazing rewards inside.
The live material is at times interesting and at times laughable. It's kind of neat to hear Brian singing these songs live, until he starts screaming and straining the hell out of his voice. Too many drugs, cigarettes and steaks.
