"Precious Memories" |
As I travel down life's pathway, Know not what the years may hold. As I ponder, hopes grow fonder, Precious memories flood my soul Precious father, loving mother, Glide across the lonely years. And old homes scenes of my childhood In fond memory appears. Precious memories, how they linger How they ever flood my soul. In the stillness of the midnight, Precious sacred scenes unfold. |

MAX'S NEW PUPPY - Here's one of the twins and I sitting on the running board of Mildred and Paddy's car. I am holding my first puppy. Dan gave him to me. I was over at Harold's house playing with Janice and Freddie. They lived in the Bradbury house then (Hickory St. across from where Max lives now). Janice and I were sitting on the sidewalk behind the house. I think I had a rake and she had a hoe and we were chopping at the grass with them. She turned and chopped me in the head with the hoe, laying my head wide open, the blood just squirted. I got up and ran home but wouldn't let Mom examine the wound to tell how bad it was. Dan came in about that time, carrying a puppy. He sat down beside me and said "Look what I brought you!" I said, "Can I hold him?" and he said "Not unless you let Mom look at that cut on your head." . So I held the puppy and cried while Mom took care of the wound. There wasn't any Bactine in those days. Mom's favorite remedy was turpentine, and that really sat you on fire - and it stunk. |

Here's one of Pappy and me, and the truck. I used to just love to get behind the spare tire on that truck. There was just enough room for me to squeeze behind it. You will notice that Dennis' house was a filling station then and the house across from the post office wasn't there yet. It was moved in just after that. |

Barney & Mildred - Barney is on his first furlough from the Army. There's that everloving peach tree again. Where you can see the corn growing is the post office parking lot now. |
