ever wish that you could get an up-dated list of shows for the nyc area every week via e-mail?  well wish no more, because such a thing exists!  it's called the johnnybeach list (or at least that's what i call it).  to subscribe, simply send an e-mail to majordomo@cloud9.net with "subscribe nyc-shows" and your e-mail address in the body.

venus is perhaps the best zine around for female bands and musicians.  run out of chicago, the writing in this colorful, glossy zine is very good and the interviews are excellent.  much, much better than chickfactor or other grrrl-centered publications.  check it out!

you can also get on insound's e-mail list for weekly updates.  insound is an indie mailorder company out of nyc and carries great stuff (support them before supporting companies like amazon.com).  just be aware that a lot of the albums on their new releases list are actually reissues.
