Burlap Ghillie Suit |
The burlap ghillie suit is the most well known and used style and is often seen being used by military snipers. It is because of its versatility and ability to be adaptive to almost any terrain that makes this style popular. The burlap suit can be used for a variety of situations. Since the burlap looks more like grass than it does leaves, it will work great for stalking, crawling and/or sitting in and around fields and open areas. If you want to transition over to a wooded or brushy area, then all you need to do is add some natural vegetation (branches, leaves, etc.) into the suit to help blend with the area you are working in. |

Burlap ghillie suits are made with several different materials and have numerous options to choose from. |

Below is a list of the materials and some options that can be used to make your suit. |
-The clothing can be anything, but a set of military cammies (BDU's) or a flight suit (mechanic's suit) will work best. -The burlap can be used from feed or sand bags, or from rolls bought at a military surplus store. Some craft/fabric stores or departments (Wal-Mart) also sell the burlap in different colors. -The burlap can be painted or dyed to match the surrounding terrain. Use different shades of natural earth tone colors such as browns, tans, greens, grays, etc. Black can also be used to break up the outline, but it is not a natural color. -The burlap can be stripped individually (each strand) or cut into strips that are different lengths and widths. -The netting that is the base to tie the burlap to can be any type, but military cammie netting is preferred. Don't have the holes in the netting to big or to small. You will most likely need to stick natural vegetation into the netting for better break-up and concealment. -The ventilation netting can be a mosquito netting or a mesh clothing bag (paint or dye different colors to match clothing). -The netting can be sewn, zip-tied or Shoo Goo'd to the clothing. More than one can be done for more durability. -The reinforcement material can be cut from a sea bag, CP (GI) tent, or a military shelter half. |
