UNIFORMS

(Dress for Success)

There is only one “required” uniform item in Girl Scouting, and that’s the Girl Scout pin (provided by the troop).  However, each troop is able to set their own policy. Scouts look best when they wear the full "dress” uniform. Our Scouts are expected to wear these.  We may also make troop t-shirts to wear for camping trips or messy craft projects.  Experience has shown the vest is easier to wear than the sash (doesn’t fall off the shoulder), and it holds more badges and patches than a sash.  You will also need to buy the following “doo-dads” to be sewn on or attached to the vest:

       US Flag Patch
       “GSUSA” Strip
       “GSSCC” Strip
       Daffodil Troop Crest
       Numbers "167" in green
Green felt tab for Girl Scout and World Trefoil pins

The troop provides the Girl Scout Pin and World Trefoil Pins (if they don’t already have them).

When To Wear It:  In order to give the girls a sense of pride and to give Girl Scouting the recognition and respect it deserves, full uniforms (tan/khaki-colored pants/skorts/shorts/skirt, official Junior Girl Scout vest, white shirt) will be mandatory dress for all troop meetings, ceremonies and some field trips.  Troop t-shirts will likely be the dress for camping trips and some field trips.  We do ask that the girls do not wear pants that have seen their better days (i.e, holes, fraying, etc.) on field trips (camping trips are OK).

Where To Get It:  Vests (and other uniform pieces) can be purchased at the Girl Scout Council Office or at Kettman’s. You can also order online at the GSUSA website (GSUSA Online Shopping Mall).  If anyone is so inclined, Simplicity (pattern #9855) has a pattern that works well for making your daughter’s vest.

Where To Put the Insignia:  The US Flag patch, Girl Scouts USA and Santa Clara County strips, troop numerals, membership stars, Bridge patch, Brownie Wings, and Try-It badges (triangles)/Junior Badges (circles) should be placed on the front of the uniform along with the brown or green tab with the World Trefoil & Girl Scout pin.  No other badges/patches should be on the front of the uniform.  All event patches, including Cookie participation patches, should be placed on the back of the uniform.  Check out http://jfg.girlscouts.org/GS/Uniforms/BrVest/bv0.htm for more detail on the Brownie vest and http://jfg.girlscouts.org/GS/Uniforms/JrVest/jv0.htm for more detail on the Junior vest.
