Who We Are
Members: We are 3rd to
5th grade Juniors. This is our 5th troop
year. We love animals and books and
enjoy sports, camping, singing, and dancing.
Junior Leader:
Kristina: I was the first parent to volunteer
to lead this troop and have been lucky enough to be joined by other wonderful
co-leaders. It has been a lot of work,
but I continue to be amazed by what “my girls” have accomplished. I look forward to guiding the Juniors this year to managing the troop themselves.
Troop
History: We
had our first troop meeting on November 6, 2000. That year we had one leader (Kristina) and 1
Daisy and 16 Brownie Girl Scouts in grades K-3.
We spent most of that year learning about Girl Scouting, trying to
figure what we were doing, and doing lots of crafts. We earned our first 15 Try-It Badges, went on
some fun field trips, and attended some exciting events. We went on our first troop overnight in July
2001.
The next year (2001-2002) we started
out very strong with 3 leaders (Kristina, Lynn, and Carissa)
and 21 Brownie Girl Scouts. The year
proved to be a bit chaotic with that many girls, but we still had fun and
managed to earn another 13 Try-It Badges, go on two overnights, attend
wonderful events (Girl Scout Expo at Great America, Sweetheart Dance, San Jose
Fire Department safety seminar, and Junior Camporee),
and explore new places (Pumpkin Patch, Christmas in the Park, Thinking Day
International Market, orienteering hikes).
At the end of the year, 11 of our sisters bridged to Junior Girl Scouts
and moved on to Troop 378. During the
summer we went to the Winchester Mystery House, Oakland Zoo, and Raging Waters
and camped at
For the 2002-2003 school year,
we continued our Try-It crusade by completing 13 Try-It Badges with a troop of
16 girls. We continued our attendance in
many of the wonderful events of previous years and ended the year with a trip
to Planet Granite for some indoor rock climbing lessons. Our 3rd graders attended Junior Camporee in May and won 4 awards; it was quite an exciting
trip for them. The finale of the year
was the Bridging Ceremony where 10 of our girls were awarded their Rainbow to
Juniors Patch and Brownie Wings as they “flew up” to Juniors. At that time we also invested 2 new
members. Our summer activities included
a tour of Mrs. Grossman’s Paper Factory and camping for two nights in
The
2003-2004 school year proved to be a challenge. We had a split troop of 4 Brownies and up to
12 Juniors. By
December, three Juniors had left the troop to
concentrate on other activities, and four more dropped at the end of year. Our troop loss momentum a bit due to family
issues for some of our leaders. Despite
all of that, we still had a fun year when we attended events such as the
Service Unit Hayride, GSSCC’s Winterfest
2003, our troop’s New Year’s Eve Overnight at
Rainbow’s End, the Service Unit’s Junior Camporee,
and a campout at
