This Is The Home Of GSY!
By using the talents of it's young people, L'Islet Salvation Army Corps has succeeded in bringing a dimension of modern praise and worship to it's meetings.
Their repertoir includes such songs as:
I Love You Lord
Light Of The World
The Lord's My Shepherd
Blessed Be Your Name
The Potter's Hand
He Is The Lord
and the list continues!
Last February, GSY were privileged enough to contribute two songs for a regional CD, 'Southern Scene'. The songs 'The Lord's My Shepherd' and 'Open The Eyes Of My Heart' are included and have proven very popular. If you are interested in purchasing a CD, a few are avaliable by contacting the Corps (see below).
Jon (keyboards/bass), Rich(percussion), Steph, Lorraine, Chrissy, Chris (keyboards), Rebecca
Chris (Corps Officer), Becky, Sarah (flute)
Members not included in photo: Leanne, Pippa, Collette (group leader) and Greg (additional percussion)
The group began life in 2000 under the name 'Nitro Praise'. Members have come and go, consequently changing the group's style and audience accordingly. As mentioned above, they have a large repertior, covering, praise, worship and even the occasional dance and drama. In early 2004, the group changed it's name from 'Nitro Praise' to 'GSY' - God Seeking Youth / God's Seeking You (it's debatable!!) which some may have noticed is also the abbreviation of Guernsey. Very clever!!
This year, in many ways, has been a rather 'bumpy' one with various personal problems and stuff, although each moment has brought blessings to all. In late spring came the news that practically the most vital person in the group, pianist Chris, was leaving us for four years to study in Canada. This came as a shock to all and we miss him dearly. Luckily he has not gone forever and will be returning for holidays. Yay! Jon has therefore become our keyboard player - and an excellent one he is too! But now we were down a bass player. Oh, no! Luckily, Kim came to our rescue and sits in on a Sunday.
We have also been pleased to see Greg at our practices and he plays when Richard is away and also supports Richard with any other 'percussion-related' stuff! You can tell I know a lot about it can't you!!
Anyway, to continue, in order to enable us to have fewer evenings out doing practices , the decison was made in September to change practice from Friday evening to Wednesday before songsters. (I think this was also decided so that people had Friday nights free to go out to town! lol. What a surprise!!)

On Sunday 6th November 2005 GSY took on, for various reasons, the task of leading the evening meeting.
Despite a few ill-placed nerves (mainly from two members of the group - I won't mentoin any names, you know who you are!) it went extremely well. These nerves soon disappeared and many, many people said how much they enjoyed it, and how blessed they'd felt. Each member chose their favourite song and how it would be performed (i.e. just the group or everyone, with group accompaniment, the piono/organ or with the band.). We each then had to write a testimony-type piece which explained why we had chosen the song, and what it meant to us. The theme for the meeting was 'God has a plan for me' so many of us included a little about this in our talks.
As I have said, the evening was a success (we only made a couple of mistakes in our songs! he-he) and I'm sure that each member would agree. Hopefully it will be the first of many, so that we can all develop our public speaking skills and hopefully continue this idea on to other aspects of our worship and witnessing.
It was also great to see Captain Chris there last night. Everyone's missed him and I hope he enjoyed it!
