I drive AI also-ran EXIV 200GT to a Close but Clean Win in the Grand Valley 300

Well, I managed to win the Grand Valley 300 with the Toyota Corona EXIV 200GT, but it was amazingly close.

   Game: main
   Day: 5410
   Date: October 22, 2000
Race: Grand Valley 300KM Endurance Race
   Car: [R]Corona EXIV 200GT
   Qualified: 6th(+2.359) 1:47.451not
   Result: 1st
   Money: Cr300,000
   Prize-Car: black/green Castrol Supra GT

   1st:* [R]EXIV 200GT 1-41:41.2not
   2nd: [R]NSX-R LM GT2 +13.706 (1-41:54.9)
   3rd: [R]R32GT-R'91 +48.932 (1-42:30.1)
   4th: [R]EXIV 200GT +253.507 (1-45:54.7)
   5th: [R]Lancer EvoIV GSR +294.532 (1-46:35.7)
   6th: [R]LANTIS Type R +386.868 (1-48:08.1)

   Pits: 15,30,45
   fl(48): 1:38.350not

   lap 1: 1:47.634
   slowest non-pit (6) 1:42.416
             next (9) 1:42.321
   fastest pit laps (45in) 1:54.652
                      (16out) 1:46.938
   slowest pit laps (30in) 1:55.746
                      (31out) 1:48.266

After the start, I soon settled into fourth place, ahead of the other EXIV 200GT, but worked my way past the Lancer into 3rd before the end of the first lap. On lap 4 the R32 dropped back from the lead a let the NSX pass it, and in the process obstructed me a bit.

Because of the AI pit stops, I got into first place by my first pitstop, but dropped to 3rd after it.

Similarly, I had gained first place by my second pitstop, but dropped to 2nd after the stop. My time was about 50:55 as I exited the pit, on schedule for about 10 seconds under 1-42, and that with the extra pitstop included.

Never-the-less, I dropped from first to 3rd on my third pit stop too. Each time I had gained the lead, I just had the NSX in sight, and then it pitted. The NSX pitted once again on lap 53, and I got the lead and managed to hold on to win.

I won Cr300,000, and a black/green Castrol Supra GT.

This was a very close race. 8-)

Once again I actually recorded all lap times, as follows:

Lucky you! 8-)

Oh my. It has finally happened. That total is off by a second and I can't find a reasonable explanation. 8-)

Here are the settings I used. I sure took a long time tweaking them. 8-)

The use of much less than maximum rear downforce really seems to allow low-powered FF cars to accelarate and go much faster. It does not seem to adversely affect cornering; in fact, it seems it can even help since the physics model pulls the car around the corner by its front wheels, and the low rear downforce seems to let the tail come around faster after it. Reducing the front camber seems to help acceleration, too.
